UPCOMING EVENTS

Targa Trophy Rally Navigating

Day started early. Woke up at 6:00 to meet up with the team at the Paddock. Saw the Skylines stickered up for battle.

It was dope that even the navigator’s names were on our side of the car. Thanks Mark and Felix!

Head out for the W at San Francisco for the start of the rally.

Met up with John P. He led us to the registration area and we filled out driver/navigator forms.

We had plenty of time to squeeze in breakfast and install the Targa Trophy sponsor decals to the cars. At 9:30 was the driver meeting. The goal of the rally was to get as close to you can to the test times set by the organizers. Start out with 1000 points and points are deducted for getting lost, going too fast or too slow. The course was a mix of freeway, city streets and twisty back roads. We were working with speedometer in kilometers. Anyone w/ a GPS would definitely have an advantage.

Starting line, maps are handed out here and mileage was taken down.

Got passed up since we were in cruise mode.

The challenge was trying to estimate when the turns were coming up since we were on kilometers and the maps were in miles. Just had to estimate the ETAs in our head. It worked out, we didn’t get lost.

Cool to see a caravan of VWs. Very scenic drive.

Midway through the course was the North vs South Euro CARnival carshow at the W in the East Bay. Grubbed on some BBQ, saw some old friends and another driver meeting.

That was the last stop for our team. Found a seemingly harmless leak in the brake line, but didn’t want to risk it on a tough course. We’ll get em next time!

    awesome writeup, and awesome cars
are these the real gtr kpgc skylines, or “just” gtx-skylines

  2. Thanks for bringing the Skyline’s out to NorCal vs SoCal CARnival 2010 =)

Was a pleasure meeting Mark, Felix, leslie and the fatlace gang.
