Taking it back, way back to 1973 this Monday with The Blackbyrds. Legendary trumpeter Donald Byrd tapped his most talented Howard University students to form this jazz funk band, which would release pioneering funk hits such as “Rock Creek Park,” “Walking In Rhythm,” and “Mysterious Vibes.” Classic cuts!! The Blackbyrds have had a significant impact on hip-hop, you’ve probably heard their music sampled by Eric B. & Rakim and NWA. Enjoy!
