Flick Picks

With awards season in full gear and the usual big box movies getting pats on their backs, I turn my head to movies without all the limelight. Just to give you a little taste of past flicks I keep at the top of my indie list – Chasing Amy, Love Jones, The Wackness and Lost in Translation – just to name a few.  So here are my most recent picks. They are:

Facing eviction from his parents’ home on his 30th birthday, a socially awkward guy meets the girl of his dreams and creates his own rules for growing up.

A romantic (and sadomasochistic) comedy.

This documentary mainly focuses on his life in the Bay Area.  Definitely a must if you haven’t seen it already.

I’m a big time Parker Posey fan.  Starting with Party Girl, then the iconic Dazed and Confused and then the disturbing yet dark comedy of House of Yes.  Broken English is about Nora Wilder, a thirty-something year old, and everyone around her is in a relationship, married, or has children. All of which she has none.

This quirky comedy takes matchmaking to another level.

Starring Keira Knightly and Sam Worthington, a film about a married couple who discover temptation can lead anywhere.

For as long as she could remember, Dakota Skye has been cursed with a super power. She has the ability to see the truth in any lie she hears.  The actress, Eileen April Boylan, is also half Pinay, and I gotta show love for my kababayans.

Till the next episode…

I don’t know if you’ve seen these yet but these are some of my past QUIRKY faves. Love Stinks with French Stewart and Bill Bellamy, The Birdcage with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, The Wood with Taye Diggs and Omar Epps, Slums of Beverly Hills with Natasha Lyonne, Waitress with Keri Russell, Welcome to the Dollhouse with Heather Matarazzo and Election with Reese WItherspoon. Hope those help!
