Unlike last year where I observed the Annual Lantern Floating Hawaii Ceremony from afar, this year I got chest deep (literally) into the celebration of life and remembrance. Thousands of people from all over the world line the shores of Ala Moana Beach Park to participate in this solemn Memorial Day event, which is deeply rooted in the Buddhist tradition of toro nagashi or “lantern offerings on the water” to pay respects to ancestors. Regardless of faith, ethnic background, political preference, etc…no one can deny the fact that moments like this truly show why humans are such amazing beings. I hope these photos evoke as much emotion in your hearts as it did for me…

Hey Michael, I use a Nikon D7000 – a great beginner/intermediate camera. I used a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 on all except the last two, where I used a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. Check out my Flickr for more photos and also EXIF data
