Throwback Thursday – Kirk Williams’ VW MKII GTI

Let this post take you back to 1991…when the Internet went mainstream, when Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson faced off in the NBA Finals, when Tupac started his rise to the top of the rap game…when Kirk Williams’ VW MKII GTI was born.  Surely it didn’t look this amazing for a better part of the decade, but thankfully Kirk dedicated 2 years to build a time machine that will take you right back to the good old days.

At first glance it’s easy to mistake the Zender kitted Volkswagen for a BMW e30.  Cannibalizing a rusted out donor car, Kirk was able to salvage this historic piece of race inspired styling and flawlessly integrate it into his project.

To power his time machine, Kirk swapped a VR6 motor under the hood “to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity.”

The subtle details of period correct styling can also be found in the 16″ Hamann wheels and plaid Recaro seats.

Mahalos to Kirk for taking us back!
