Ladies — I don’t know about you, but I always try to look for pieces that is one of a kind, and makes a statement (of course). I love having the ‘where’d you get that killer dress’ outfit when I go somewhere. And honestly, I don’t want to be caught wearing the same shit that I wore during the last big event.

I swear I can look through this site forever. It’s easy to navigate, and not so overwhelming.

There’s a mix of new and vintage pieces, and you can never go wrong with classic little black dresses with a twist. Their collection of vintage pieces are to die for, and are obviously one of a kind treasures in your closet. They have a great collection of jewelry too, if you’re looking for that bad ass ring and some sick arm candy.

Nasty Gal is San Francisco based which makes me even happier that I’m buying locally =). I went to a discussion about a month ago in UC Berkeley and owner Sophia Amoruso was one of the speakers. When asked where she finds all these killer vintage items, she simply replies, “that’s totally top secret.”

Make sure you check out the site, I’m almost positive you’ll find something great! (click on image to redirect to nastygal)

In 2006, Amanda Davis stepped on the scene hitting the jewelry industry where it counts…
Right in The Family Jewels.

The Chicago based jewelry designer immediately took the industry by storm with the introduction of pieces such as a skeleton hand and rib cage. Her innovative designs set her apart from the others, giving the world a new outlook on acrylic jewelry. As trends mature and change, so has her work. She’s still working with acrylics, but is working on expanding her line by experimenting with a variety of metals.

Amanda was kind enough to take some time to give us an inside look at her world, and share the story behind Right in the Family Jewels.

A bonus fun fact…she created the WTForks necklaces!

Interview after the jump…

1. What’s the story behind Right in the Family Jewels?

My jewelry making career began completely on a whim. I was down at my parents’ house in Georgia and decided to try my hand at using a scroll saw. My grandmother had left it for my dad when she passed away and it wasn’t being used very often. It was pretty difficult, initially, but I finally got the hang of maneuvering sheets of Plexiglas past the blade to cut out stenciled shapes I had made in Photoshop. After thousands of snapped blades, countless knicks and cuts to my fingers, and many hours holed up in the garage, it became second nature to cut out any shape I could imagine.

The company name was derived from my ideal of wanting something kitschy that would stick in people’s heads. To this day, the funniest question I’ve ever been asked was if “Right in the Family Jewels” was a karate studio!

2. Where do you get your inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere. Oftentimes when I’m alone, I find myself thinking about jewelry so much that it becomes overwhelming. My brain will be flooded with new ideas, new experiments to try out, or ways to better the products currently in production. My biggest person inspiration comes from artisans who work with their hands.

Oftentimes, people will overlook exactly how much time and dedication goes into making a product from start to finish. I hold other craftsmen in such high regard; especially my mom, who is a piano teacher, a harpist, and a ballet/tutu seamstress. I definitely got my crafty side from her.

3. Which piece that you’ve created do you consider to be your favorite?

My favorite piece is the one I dreamt of a few months ago that I am researching how to make a reality. It’s hard to pick a favorite at this point, from my past collections, because I put so much time and effort into each one.

4. Who would you love to work with?

There are so many amazing jewelry artists I would love to collaborate with. Jules from BIJULES NYC, would be in my top 3. Her designs are so bold and powerful and it would be honor to learn from someone who is doing what she loves, and also being really successful at it.

5. What can we expect in the future from RITFJ?

Metal jewelry! I am in the process of learning different metalsmithing techniques and am impatiently awaiting the day I can unveil a whole new side of my jewelry line that incorporates coppers, silvers, golds, and other elements.

6. How would you describe your personal style? What are three items you can’t live without?

My personal style is all over the map. It varies from one day to the next. Whether it be super lazy and comfy, or decked out in heels. I still love getting fancied up to go have drinks with friends or out to a nice dinner. That novelty will never wear off and it makes me proud to be a girl.

Three items I can’t live without would be my Miu Miu bag, every pair of Karen Walker sunglasses I own (even though that’s cheating), and an beautiful, ornate sterling silver bracelet with diamonds that used to be my grandmothers.

7. What’s in your purse? (send a photo)

mini Chanel perfume, sharpie fine point pen, Mac lipglass in lust, Mac lipstick in vegas volt, Iphone, Comme de Garcons wallet, grey ant ’status’ sunglasses, and paper trails of endless jewelry shipments.

8. What does the word “Ladylike” mean to you?

When I think of the word “ladylike”, I think of sampling my mom’s perfume when I was younger and how my sister and I would spend hours digging through her jewelry collection in hopes of making ourselves look as beautiful as her. Lace, frills, parasols, pearls, and tea cups also come to mind, all of which I adore.

Hellz is proud to bring you ‘Cult Classics,’ the new Holiday 2009 collection. While taking elements and inspiration from the film ‘Heathers,’ ‘Cult Classics’ seeks to personify the seemingly innocent girl with anything but innocent intentions.

The collection creates a moody and subtle yet inspiring ambience through a darker holiday color palette with a sense of mischievousness throughout the collection, as well as a connection to every female’s devious side. New interesting pieces in this collection include; the ‘Villains’ jacket, a unique play on a motorcycle/peacoat with an exaggerated collar, perforated leather sleeves and wool body. Also, the ‘Kiss My…’ shemagh skirt with tie and fringe details.

As always, witty design and intricate detail are a staple for the collection and only help further prove that volatile and sly girls will forever be Cult Classics.
