Swatch announced the winner of the “Swatch Art Rules Design Contest,” and celebrated with an event in Culver City featuring music from the homey DJ Skee and Warren G and hosted by Swedish rapper ADL. Latvian designer and artist Marta Zarina-Geize won the contest with her “Scream of Victory,” design that embodied the joy of snowboarding and the emotion of victory. She beat out over 1,300 other entries and her design will be applied to both the TTR (Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour) Trophy and Swatch Tour Watch.

A panel of judges ranged from art experts to pro Snowboarders including Ingemar Backmann, Baptiste Bourgain and Kassia Meador (pro surfer and photographer – if you haven’t seen her stuff check it out it’s killer.).

I’m going to be updating my personal blog using my instagram photos. I’ve been trying to figure out how to get back into the blogging mix but I’ve been addicted to IG that it’s taken over me updating. If you’ve got one, please follow my instagram, markarcenal. I’ve dropped the 5DMKII and all the other camera’s and have only been using the iPhone4s as my camera cause Instagram is definitely where its at.

So here’s to blogging again and here’s my last 7 days in 30 photos.

I designed some coasters and we produce them all in house at the Fatlace Paddock.

I drop a few hints from our new collection on instagram so if you haven’t followed me yet, follow markarcenal. Here’s a Fall/Winter release of our newest cut/sew. Super excited about this stuff.

RIP MCA. Influenced me as a youth and very respected as an adult.

We’re working with 530 on our new sites and online store. It should be good.

In the air, I believe it’s my 20th flight this year. Not nearly as much as before so I’m happy about it.

In SF’s international terminal, the Filipino’s are the only people guilty of lining up 4 hours before the counter even opens. If you really think about it, there’s only so many tickets sold per plane so you would think there would be that much room for baggage and boxes. It’s already 2012, I really think someone should let them know. The last time I flew to the philippines, we went an hour before the flight and there was no line whatsoever. Strange.

Sushi Sam’s in San Mateo is thee spot. I’ve been going here since the 90s.

I also visited Michael Jordan Motorsports head guy Kreig. This is Bostroms Bike.

The race was great, Bostrom and Hayden finished 2nd and 4th. Good stuff.

Event Coverage ~ DePalma Art & Kustom Car Show ~ Costa Mesa

Sunday was the DePalma Art & Kustom Car Show at the LAB in Costa Mesa California. Stephanie & I were invited by Kris from DePalma Clothing Company to be a part of the art show that was being held in conjunction with the car show. For the past few weeks we have been selecting photos, printing and getting them framed and matted. Last week we hung them in the gallery at the event space for yesterday’s event. It was tough to get a shot of the whole wall so I had to bust out the fisheye lens.

Cruising off from the office in Anaheim to the 2012 Formula Drift Season in Long Beach, we decided to bring the Lexus SC300 build that was recently refurbished by Cx Racing and TRIBE. At the event there were nearly 60 drivers taking place at Formula D. The CX Racing team included Daigo Saito, Jeff Jones, Matt Field, Mauricio Ornelas, and Julian Jacobs did an amazing job drifting. At the end of the event, it was an incredible experience to see Daigo Saito making his amazing American debut which landed him in 3rd place. Check out the CX Racing team.

Originally from Garden Grove, California, I joined the Army and I get to see the world – especially the automotive world. My Subaru wagon has been to meets all over America, from California to Florida, and everywhere in between. To further my first post, I want to share some photos from a previous weekend – actually just one eventful day in paradise. My day began at the Inaugural Pacific Autofest, held in the same Ward Center Parking Structure as Hellaflush Hawaii 2012. It was a groundbreaking event for the Hawaiian custom automotive scene because it was the first to create a gathering for young and old enthusiasts to enjoy amazing cars and motorcycles, live music, automotive and vintage swap meet…

…where I got some awesome vintage Coca-Cola goodness for the kitchen!

Oh I forgot to mention…there was a pinup girl contest too! It doesn’t matter who won, but Marci was kind enough to let me capture the beauty and essence of Pacific Autofest. Thanks Marci!

Leaving the automotive world, I entered the world of dance at Nextdoor in Chinatown where a week of fundraisers, discussions, and workshops culminated at the 2012 National Dance Week Hawaii Anykine All-Styles Battle. 1-on-1, 3-on-3, 1-on-3, bboys and bgirls put down well above 100% on the floor.

And to end this eventful Saturday, only in Hawaii would an event like the 10th Annual Waikiki Spam Jam exist! Yes, Spam everything…from popsicles from OnoPops to quesadillas and nachos from Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville and lettuce wraps from P.F. Chang’s you see below.

Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibit

Inspiration. It’s the one word that surrounds absolutely everything I do. And I can find it anywhere and in everything. But sometimes, it’s handed to me and the hunt for it isn’t necessary.

Last weekend I checked out the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit currently showing at the de Young. One of the best fashion exhibits I’ve ever seen. If you follow his work you know he’s famous for the cone cup corsets he did for Madonna. And honestly, I wasn’t a big fan of those things. That is, until seeing them in person and learning the story behind them, signifying a woman’s power. This uber talented designer emphasizes that a woman’s sensuality IS her strength. Along with seeing his attention to detail, his impeccable tailoring, his sometimes unusual “how come noone else thought of that?” choices, I found myself in THE epitome of simple…yet complex. My absolute heaven.

And of course, had to get in the good food, before and after my mind blowing experience.

Mr. Paul Skee is launching Master Culture very soon. I’ve been watching his Mighty 4 videos for years. Dope to see that he’s always pushing hip hop positivity. I met him at Hawaii by chance because I noticed he was rockin a dope Thudrumble hat w/ East3′s signature handstyle.

Peep this mix w/ DJs Swiftrock, Lean Rock and Skeme Richards. It has a very chill and groovin vibe. Don’t be surprised if you start BBoying mid mix, haha.

It was like yesterday having skratch sessions w/ Swiftrock and the Supernatural Turntable Artists in the late 90s.

Stussy x Plan Check Kitchen + Bar

Cultures collided last night when Stussy and Plan Check Kitchen + Bar joined forces to introduce a special menu for the month of May. The menu gives an original take on the gastropub offerings of Plan Check such as the International Stussy Burger filled with Akaushi beef, jalapeno escabeche, Americanized cheese, smokey bacon, battered onion straws, knowledge sauce and crunchy bun.

If this description didn’t get your mouth watering then maybe the Worldwide Tribe Fries will, oozing with chorizo gravy and roasted chile topped off with a fried egg.

To complete the over indulgence I tried the Stoopid Fresh Donuts, which were 2 glazed donuts w/ a raisin frosting, carmelized cornflakes and milk ice cream. To wash down the endless amount of goodness I opted to try the Livin Extra Large mango soda with lime and brugal rum.

The food was delicious and the design of Plan Check is on point. Nestled in a quite neighborhood in West LA this is definitely worth a trip to check out and I’m glad I was invited to this event and I’m sure I’ll be back sooner than later.

Naturally, Stussy and Plan Check unveiled a limited edition tee as well. Thanks for all the hospitality Plan Check and Pitch Control PR.
