Open Audition for Perspective Students Will be Held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 12pm to 2:30pm at The Edison Theatre at 213 E. Broadway Long Beach, CA 90802
Long Beach, Calif – April 13, 2016 – POW! WOW! School of Music (PWSoM) is excited to announce its first event in OC, CA. PWSoM OC will be a one-week intensive music training and mentorship program focused on music education and performances. PWSoM will provide a unique learning opportunity for a select group of student musicians of diverse backgrounds and musical styles between the ages of 12-18, who will explore the intersection of different genres and fields of music.
The students will participate in a wide range of classes including music theory, music fundamentals, composition, improvisation, live sound, recording, performance, and the music business. Both local and national musicians, teachers, and music industry professionals will serve as the guiding force behind each lesson. Through this unique dynamic, teachers and students will compose, brainstorm, invent, collaborate, explore, and create together.
The culminating event – a live music concert at PWSoM’s closing night festivities on Saturday, May 21, 2016 – will debut the students’ collaborative efforts in creating original musical arrangements.
“We are excited to seed a new positive movement in Orange County that’ll bring together local and national musicians to support local communities, stated Andy Song, the founder/director of the program.” “Our focus is on building creative collaborations by harboring a sense of companionship among participants rather than competition. PWSoM was first created in partnership with Flexfit inside an art festival called POW! WOW!” in Honolulu, HI in 2013. Since then we have expanded to Austin at South by Southwest (SXSW), Long Beach, Japan and now to Orange County.”
Musicians and singers (age 12-18) are welcome to attend the “Open Audition” on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 12:00pm – 02:30pm at The Edison Theatre to meet the teachers and program coordinators. At the “Open Audition,” the perspective students will be evaluated on their skill level, ability to be mentored and a willingness to collaborate for placement into the program. Official invitations will be sent to those selected on April 25, 2016.
PWSoM will run simultaneously with its evening activations which will be held at selected venues (TBA) in Santa Ana, Fullerton and Costa Mesa, and complete all curriculum and rehearsals by April 20, 2016. The main dates for PWSoM OC are as follows:
