Finally motivated to check out this Yakitori spot we’ve been eyeing for awhile. Japanese food is surprisingly good in Shanghai and this place is top notch

Potato Salad with Cherry Tomatoes and Raisins. Yes, raisins. Egg yolk sprinkles to seal the deal. And bacon on the side to mix in yourself.

Tsukune, chicken meatballs with a surprise quail egg inside. This begs the question – Which came first the chicken or the egg?

And tender & delicious Oxtail.

It’s been a very trying year. I hope that 2010 brings us all a lot
MORE inspiration, creativity, productivity, success, sense of
achievement, self-confidence, patience, understanding, consideration
for others, love and togetherness — and a whole lot LESS death,
negativity, detachment, jealousy, animosity, contempt, back-stabbing,
blatant opportunism, self-doubt, self-destruction, selfishness,
procrastination, over-thinking, frustration, and crappy weather. All
in favor of a happier new year, say “AYE…”

UniBOMB! @Oyama

Sushi Oyama is my favorite restaurant in Shanghai. It only seats 14, and each piece of dishware is different. The result is a completely unique sushi experience. It helps that the fish is air flown from Tokyo daily.

Recently, I took my girl there for her bday. This rice dish from the Omakase was superb and fun mixing it

Mr. Oyama likes getting to know his customers and making things they’ll appreciate. He took it a notch and made us this UniBomb! Minced toro, Uni, Salmon Roe, and a Quail Egg topped over rice mixed with the house-made soy sauce and wasabi. Too good and definitely worth blogging about. Mmmmm

First Look, El Coctel

El Willy has done it again. El Coctel is a welcome new edition to the french concession, where I live in Shanghai.

El Willy is a crazy, spanish guy who has on the best restaurants in the hai, a tapas joint of the same moniker. El Coctel is his new bar inspired by his local places in Barcelona.

Upscale with a sense of humor. Nice lighting, big windows, good vibes.

This place could give NYC a run for its money. Quality cocktails. They even make control the temperature of their ice. The catch, NYC prices too!

It’s all in the details baby. Congrats to Marty & El Willy! Will def be coming back here alot.
