Complacency.
More often than not, I take most things in my life for granted. Things as simple as a roof over my head, the education that’s been PROVIDED to me without even asking for it…Today I stumbled upon the story of William Kamkwamba of Malawi. After being caught for sneaking in to classes at the technical institute near his home because he couldn’t afford the tuition, he was barred from the school. During that time he gained access to books on energy and windmills…He improved the lives of the people of his community by making a windmill for his home and then town, all from looking at a picture of one in a book.
Makes me wonder, what if people like William, had they had been given the same opportunities that I’ve been blessed with in my life, might possibly be the Edisons, the Alexander Flemings…the innovators of our generation that change the way we live; at a younger age than any of their predecessors. Imagine the things these people could achieve…
I am spoiled…Hunger is more than a feeling in your stomach…that’s about all I have to say…

Great find and even more amazing story.
I agree with “what if” there’s more people out there that just dont have the resources…
Stuff like this really makes you think.
If anything, it makes me mad. Mad at myself. We have EVERYTHING and take all of it for granted. We continue to want more and more everyday. It’s never ending…
Makes me sick to think about how good we really have it..
besides just knowledge, the self-reflection education imparts on us is a gift in itself. as i get into more analytical courses of communication & philosophy, i find my mind wreaked with these thoughts. always good to ponder the society around you and life in general.
