Disney and Dali – Destino
In 1946, surrealist Salvador Dali formed an unlikely friendship with Walt Disney and they spent a short time collaborating on a short film called Destino. Unfortunately, only 18 seconds of Destino were ever shot, but in 1999, Roy Disney reconstructed the entire short using computer rendering and hand-drawn imagery based on the original sketches and storyboards.

i know i’ve been on this anti computer kick lately but after seeing this video
i had the urge to draw dali… i know you’re thinking c’mon man dali is one of those
artists everyone says they love… (kinda like ” oh you listen to bob? … let me guess you only have the legend cd” haha)
so here… dali got me back together again with adobe. damn you salvador.

Tabi Tabi Po is a group exhibition that explores the rich and colorful creatures of Filipino Folklore through Urban Contemporary art, featuring artists who are either Filipino or have Filipino ancestry. The Kapre, Manananggal, Dwende, Tikbalang, and Aswang will be some of the creatures that will be brought to life in this exhibit. This exhibit will explore the cultural significance of Filipino folklore and the migration of native Filipino tradition, from its rural origins to the urban cities of Metro Manila, and across the Pacific: the San Francisco bay area, the streets of Los Angeles, and to the beaches of Hawaii, to name a few. Tabi Tabi Po will be a multi-media installation, incorporating sound, structures, murals, indigenous craftwork and, of course, original 2-d art.
I’ve been trying to stay away from adobe products and using the rapidograph pens lately. Remember letting an album play over and over on repeat just because you were lazy to switch CDs and didn’t mind hearing it again… I did that with deltron 3030 the other night from 11 to 4:30am. “… trash your whole computer system and revert you to papyrus”

ready to take flight and welcome fall… the time for inspiration to marinate.

Trying to clean up the studio… the man cave. good thing it’s completely separate from the house… or my wife would try cleaning it up. hehe kidding ( she reads this )

Cleaning up the studio I found this old drawing I did back in highschool, of Bob… it must be over 15 years old. Good thing I did because it acted as a catalyst for motivization (Leroy Smith) I went out to the artstore and bought me some charcoal pencils to get the elbows dirty.

trying to draw again… I’ve found out that I don’t have much patience in my old age… I blame adobe, apple, tv, internet, microwave dinners, father time, and most of all myself. hah! Sometimes it’s good to get back to paper and pencil, it’s just way to convenient to have that cntrl-z. What I’d really like is to get back and huff on that aerosol… it’s been so long that I’ve never even used montana or belton. I’ll save this topic for another post. I guess summer isn’t the only one trying to hold on… hahah

To close this out here’s Iron Jonny and my godson Indie Jacob.

Got to visit Aaron and Paulie at the headquarters/toy museum in San Pedro… where I was schooled on the whole vinyl toy game, video arcade building and soup plantation eating techniques.
new angry woebot vinyl coming soon…

No matter how hard you avoid those tourist spots in your city… sometimes it’s good to just let the city take you.
I’ve been on bum status for about 3 weeks now, no longer at my 9-5 grind… just taking the time to enjoy and just breathe for a bit. But it’s hard to rest easy knowing that steady check is not going to come every other friday. You have to speed walk and jog before you start sprinting again. In my case I’m walking like George Jefferson. So if you got projects out there, let me know I’m on the freelance grind now.
It’s starting to rain again… it’s safe to say summer is officially over, in my depression I uploaded my summer pictures to reminisce on our record breaking heat wave. It was actually 91 degrees at midnight, which actually drove me and the wife to catch a 10:3opm showing of Bruno.(which I don’t recommend, unless you like penis helicopter in your face) I’m ok with the overcast and rain for now because, come tomorrow morning we’ll be in sunny LA.

I’ve never been able to get a picture of my dog smiling, but here it is… proof that Solomon Grande smiles.
