Born day morning, we decided to get up at the butt crack of dawn (literally, 4am) to trek to the Sacre Coeur and watch the sunrise. En route, we got breakfast at the cutest cafe on the bottom of the hill. I couldn’t have thought of a better way to start my second decade.

Despite the cold, it was really nice to take in the view without a million tourists hounding us and fighting to take pictures. Hopefully we’ll head back in the summer sometime to really enjoy the city in all it’s beauty.

I’m glad that the Musee d’Orsay was the first museum we hit ‘cuz it had a great selection without too much walking. A lot of original Van Goghs, Picassos and Monets (and other painters I don’t remember, lol) to showcase their roots as opposed to just popular works. Quite inspiring.

Monet is most well known as a) the founder of impressionism and b) the “water lily”/landscape guy. I’ve never been a big fan of either, but seeing his architectural works was absolutely mind-blowing. I cant even begin to describe these. Partially, I think it’s the contradiction/combination of something so structured (the Notre Dame) with an aesthetic element that’s so soft and unsuspecting. It’s really incredible. I highly recommend seeing them in person – they’re tremendous.

Finally, we went on to tackle the big mama of them all: the Louvre.

To be honest, it was all so overwhelming. So much amazing art to take in. So much beauty. These are the days when I wish I was my own boss (with unlimited resources hehe) to have extended our trip an extra 3 days and just take this all in. I won’t spoil any of the pieces there – just go see it yourself. You won’t regret it :)

In true fairy tale fashion, my prince charming whisked me away in a golden chariot to the city of lights for my birthday. It was my first international flight since moving to CA(lifornia) from CA(nada) so we made sure to pack some good reading material for the flight. Hence the new title of this blog: Blink by Malcom Gladwell.

En route, we experienced one of the most beautiful sunrises I’d ever seen in my life. Even if I tried photoshopping, which I didn’t, I’m not sure I could make the sky look so beautiful. It was truly breathtaking.

Then the sun “cracked” over the clouds. I don’t even know how to describe it. Makes me want to take overnight flights every time.

Since we only had about 48hours in the city, we hit the ground running. Our hotel was only a 5 minute walk from L’Arc De Triomphe so we hit that first.

Paris is moderately confusing when you first get there: the streets, the metro, ordering food, etc so we struggled at first. It took us a second before even figuring out how to get to the arch itself. When we did, down the rabbit hole we went…

… and up the stairs …

When we got to the top, we witnessed Paris in all its dreary, gray glory hahaha Oddly enough, it was still gorgeous. A hot chocolate with marshmellows would’ve been perfect :).

The Louvre was our next stop, but since it was closed we went straight to Notre Dame. As opposed to the traditional building picture, here’s one I messed up on with the focus. But I kinda like it even more like this, haha.

This guy also caught my interest. He um, really likes birds? We watched him for about 10 minutes just feeding these guys, without a fear in the world. The birds didn’t fear him either.

By the time we got done with dinner (at some pretentious cavier place, where we didn’t order cavier haha) the sun had set so we went to catch the city in all it’s glory – by walking down the Champs Elysees en route to La Duree for their world famous macroons.

We capped off our first day in Paris by stuffing our faces full of macroons at the Eiffel Tower :) How touristy of us, right? haha

Now I’d share photos from the top, but we were both sooooo cold and snotsicles were definitely forming :P NOT a good look. Stay tuned for part 2 coming soon!

As I spend hours (upon hours upon hours…) surfing the web each day, I come across quite a few incredible images that just get stashed into a folder on my desktop. I go through them occasionally, but it really feels like a waste to have no righteous place to share them with the world.
Recently, I was asked to create a storyboard for my Creative Design course. I started arranging my thoughts and inspirations via blog – THREESIXTWO – and eventually used this as a medium for my presentation. As it organically evolved, my professor encouraged me to continue with it as another avenue for creative output. No guarantees when I’ll update it or with how many images but hopefully it’ll be a cool addition to your RSS every once in a while. And of course, should you have a vision to share, my email is at the top right corner of the blog. Indulge me. Grazie. (click on image to take a gander)

Apologies for the lack of bloggin as of late for my CS4 has been out of commission. As I’m sure everyone knows by now, thanks to Jarod, John and Jose, last weekend was Round 4 for Formula Drift. Since I didn’t have to be at the track for qualifiers, I chilled poolside in a cabana.

After the longest nap of my life, I woke up at midnight to join everyone for the charity blackjack game. Jose’s Alife shirt brought back memories of NY… I’m way overdue for a visit.

On Friday, after another successful morning of tanning, we hit the track for qualifying and top 32. Of course, there were hiccups galore, but JP handles business like nobody else. Thanks for everything buddy!

Besides long, long hours and late nights at the track, Jose & I enjoyed some gorgeous sunrises by the pool.

I was obsessed with the Vegas sky – the combination of clouds and light there is absolutely spectacular. I wish my photography did it justice.

Saturday marked the release of a collaborative project between Famous Stars and Straps and Rebel 8, featuring limited edition tshirts for men and women as well as signed/numbered posters. Mike Giant was present to do a live art piece as Travis Barker chilled alongside signing autographs and patiently taking photos with every fan. What troopers.
A few of the SA folks were there, and I was asked to shoot Estevan Oriol with Skinhead Rob by Estevan’s newly finished whip.

Standing in the middle of 3rd Street just inches away from being hit by cars? Grrreat. Right before I took this photo, I looked at Estevan, looked at the onslaught of traffic, then back at Estevan and said “Aw man, I’m gonna die.” He goes, “No, you’re fine. Just don’t move, or else you’re fucked.” hahah
These guys are so great. Always respectful and always willing to pose for a quick flick. Thanks Alchemist!
I also had the awesome opportunity to sit in on a private interview with Mike Giant and snap away while Skinnie Magazine picked his brain. Those flicks will be up momentarily on my other blog, so stay tuned.
Of course, JP was there facilitating business as Mo handled the 5dMarkii. Big ups Famous, Rebel 8, Fast Life & ID for yet another successful event! Definitely looking forward to future shindigs with these guys.

When I first started reading the Fatlace blogs, John’s bio read “jack of all trades, master of none.” Oddly enough, I’d say that phrase was what first inspired me to try my hand at many different ventures, all of which were (and still are) my hobbies. Unfortunately, over the years I’ve struggled to narrow the list down and really define my career choice. But fortunately, I was raised with the mentality that every experience is one to be learned from and to grow from. This most recent photoshoot was no exception.

Thankfully, the incredible DC Chavez lent me a hand and some guidance. An amazing creative, and even better friend. As Rev Run reiterates daily on Twitter – in order to be successful, you must have a network that will continue to push you in that direction. “Your network helps your networth! Be sociable! Stay connected! NEVER separate from that winning team! Remember – Isolation is a sickness!!”

Stressful or not, the feeling of growth after pushing boundaries and venturing into unknown territories is unparalleled. Situations like this force you to think on toes, improvise and do the best with what you’ve got. At the same time, prepare. “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

A few random points I’ve learned from the amazing people who are continuously helping to shape my future:
- stay humble, stay hungry
- remember where you came from
- under promise, over deliver
- if you’re 5 minutes early, you’re on time. if you’re on time, you’re late. and if you’re late, just forget about it.
- integrity: doing your very best when no one is watching.

A cheesy post, and if it doesn’t serve as a lesson to anyone else, let it at least be a reminder to myself. I’ve had so many conversations lately on the teetering, insecure and unforeseen futures of creatives due to the state of the economy, but what better time than now to destroy and rebuild? What better time than now dig deep and really search ourselves for the inner greatness we are all blessed with? In times of tribulation, character is shown. Align yourself with positive energy, with people who are moving and shaking and with those who keep it real.

Anyone who reads my blog semi-regularly knows I’m not one to preach or rant or ever type so much on a blog, but hopefully this rings true somehow, somewhere. The crazier life gets, the more I find myself valuing certain friendships and the little things in life.
A final shoutout to my Social Trust fam for graciously lending me the space, and those first flicks. Two of the best people I know; not at just doing their job, but being humble, down-to-earth folks. More than obliged guys! Thank you!
