enjoy…happy friday
Last night if you were lucky enough to catch the special event on SPIKE TV for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund billed as “Fight for the Troops,” you were treated to some amazing fights highlighted with some straight up insane finishes. This is not for those with weak stomachs…so that’s my last warning.
Let’s start off with the main event: Josh Koscheck vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida. This was hands down the best knockout of the evening and possibly of the year. You may know Koscheck from the “Ultimate Fighter” reality show and most fans hate this guy, but man you have to respect this finish.
Then we have another “Ultimate fighter” alum Mike “Quick” Swick vs. Jonathan Goulet. The “quickest” KO of the night at an incredible 33 seconds!
Now on to some serious submissions. Steve “Robot” Cantwell vs. Razak Al-Hassan. All I can say is “Oh Snap!”
Skip ahead to about 5:50 and enjoy…stay for the slow-mo re-cap!
And last but not least the most insane finish of the evening and the year goes to another “Ultimate Fighter” alum Corey Hill vs. Dale Hartt. It just hurts to watch over and over and over again. You can just hear the pain in Joe Rogan’s voice when he yells to stop the fight.
And if that was too blurry for you….

Lots of UFC action coming up! Starting with the Ultimate Fighter Finale this Saturday on SPIKE TV. The next UFC star Phillipe “The Filipino Assassin” Nover is taking on Efrain Escudero. Nover just got his brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and we just may have the “Pac Man” of the UFC. My bets also with Vinny Magalhaes over Ryan Bader.
Then we have UFC Ultimate on December 27th one of the best fight cards of yet!
Here are my picks for the main match-ups:
Forrest over Rashad
Nogueira over Mir
Rampage over Silva (I know he’s lost twice before, but I got faith in homey!)
Then it’s on the most anticipated fight! Georges St. Pierre vs BJ Penn 2!!!
Both are my amazing fighters and I feel if BJ was in shape for their first fight, he would have won. GSP has come-up a lot since their last meeting as well, but I never count an in shape BJ Penn. So my money goes to BJ!!!
and guess who is going for their b-day to the fight…
Now that things at the office have officially slowed a bit. I have 2 options: 1. relax 2. party. I have chosen the latter.
So last Thursday night DJ Reflex hits me up to come out to Sutra to hang out since he would be spinning that evening. I took the next day off anyway since I was leaving for Vegas (but more on that later). Sutra has new owners now and re-modeling has begun, and I’m not so sure I like it…sure the drinks are still free and the crowd is the same, but the feel is just not there. Luckily, Flex brought out guest DJ JR-Flo from Canada. Man those guys brought out some classics and treated the crowd to some real turntablism. Super refreshing…I didn’t even think about filming some video on my camera - so enjoy this YouTube clip of JR-Flo.
Pics from the evening
Not sure what is worst the red boots, the muffin top, or the leopard coat? Maybe it’s the tattoo shirt guy in the background

“That’s right bitches, I’m a proud go-go dancer!”

I wonder how much that couch paid for a lap dance?

The long evening ended with burritos from our local spot “Alejandro’s”. It’s one of those places where you say the next morning, “Never again…” then you get drunk and it just sounds awesome. Went to bed then woke up only to pack and get ready to fly out to head out to the City of Sin for my brother’s 21st b-day party. Thanks to the Hard Rock for the comp’d rooms, which I probably ended up paying for with my streak of losses at the table anyway.
Rehab pool…just not the same without half naked chicks and drunk d-bags

So my friend, Aaron and I, have an on-going thing where we do the $20 trick. Basically, when signing into a hotel we pass $20 bucks with our credit card and ID to see if we can get a better upgrade. This time is somewhat worked and we were able to get conjoining rooms and a pool view…also we got rooms that were close to the elevator (much needed after a night of drinking - a few shorter steps is sometimes a lifesaver.)
View from the room
I didn’t take my camera out much as most of the places we ended up don’t let you bring cameras ;). But I will leave it with this short re-cap…my brother is now officially corrupted (I’m so proud), Pac Man dominated, Mandalay Bay should of been called “Manila Bay”, All you can eat sushi, Giovanni Ribisi, Luke Wilson, blackjack is evil, and still love the Wynn.

Thank you and Happy Holidays!
Finally a few days off thanks to the good ol Pilgrims. So of course I made the most of it and for some reason today I feel much like I do after a long weekend at the track and completely exhausted.
Let me start from Wed evening…night before Turkey Day. Went to Sutra, which is being remodeled and now much more like a crazy Vegas club than a lounge. Newly added stage and go-go dancers a plenty with a new laser light system and sound system. I swear I will be deaf and blind by 30. Shwayze and Cisco Adler performed…behind the scenes gossip - they only performed 3 songs because they felt the service wasn’t up to par with what they are used to i.e. the waitress took too long to give them their bottle. Lame…man up and and please your fans…you’re not that cool cause you have/had a reality show on MTV boys. I remember a few years back when no one knew who the hell Shwayze was and we booked him for less than a few hundred bucks.

Turkey Day…I’m thankful not to be hungover. Got up early to start dinner and cleaning the condo. My family decided that somehow I am to host Thanksgiving from here on out. Luckily Danielle offered to do all the cooking and from scratch! So we had turkey, stuffing, candied yams, pumpkin pie, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, cheesecake, pumpkin bread and more! So stuffed. I really am not a huge fan of food pics…so I’ll keep it short and sweet.
Black Friday / Danielle’s B-day - after waking up feeling fatter than usual I went out for all the “special” sales and checked out South Coast Plaze, Main Street on Huntington Beach, and Fashion Island in Newport Beach. I love the madness during the holidays…so many people just going nuts. Maybe it’s cause I worked at the mall for a few years during college, who knows? Got some x-mas gifts out of the way…1 for you and 2 for me.
This year I had another b-day to add to the list of November b-days. And after a great sushi dinner at Ten in Newport. We headed over to my Friday night at iLounge where bottles were ready to be popped! Night was a blur…lots of friends mixed with even more alcohol consumption that made for an interesting evening and even more interesting after-hours (more on that later).
the girls
the waitress asked who is paying for the bottles…and the response was “this guy”
good thing I got 2 bottles comp’d
After the party it’s the afterparty…the best thing about being drunk at 2am is 24hr places to eat. We end up at Jack in the box and between 3 of us we order like $20 worth of food. Then for some reason some random dude comes up to me and trys to start a fight…mind you I’m a lover not a fighter, but I’ll get down. Besides this guy was on drugs or something and I could of easily destroyed him with my skills I’ve picked up watching the Ultimate Fighter. Then again it was also 3 on 1 and my friend pretty much likes to fight any way. The guy then calls for back-up from “George,” the gay dude that looks like Krusty from the Simpsons that works at Jack in the Box. Then he pretends to try to pull something out of his shoe and then his back pocket and then picks up a chair…and once we step closer he runs out of the door and across the street in a full sprint. Our ride sees the tailend of the madness and forces back into her car and drives off. We then head to Del Taco and order another $20 worth of food. Well not wanting to let good food go to waste and the fact that I just love more action I decided to walk back to Jack in the Box with “JM”. We get there only to have our food ready for us and “Krusty” apologizing. I then ate way too much and went to bed.
Jack x Del Taco Aftermath
Weekend Road Trip to Solvang…so after all the drinking and minimal sleep it was time to pack and head out with Danielle to Solvang. Solvang is a little Danish town that’s mostly known as being the place in the movie, “Sideways” for wine. Located north of Santa Barbara and about 3 and half hours from Orange County. I was not feeling the drive up.
“No, if anyone orders Merlot, I’m leaving. I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!” - Sideways
Solvang is mostly known for their Pinot’s with a rise of Syrahs. Ok I don’t know much about wine, other than it’s good to drink, but that’s what I heard at one of the wine tastings.
Windmill for lease
It was a cool little town with lots of wine bars and bakeries. Fresh pastries are so good when you’re hungover right before you drink even more.
The country side is so nice and relaxing. I almost forgot what fresh air was.
Here are my 3 places to go when you’re in the area:
1. Hitching Post Restaurant - great AMAZING Steak/ BBQ! Super highly recommended. I even had their Ostrich steak and it was super good. The filet mignon is melt in your mouth good too.
2. Foxen winery - just like legit Mexican food joints this place is a “hole in the wall” style winery that serves really good wine!
3. La Vie Winery - located in the Lompoc “ghetto” - really it’s not a ghetto at all just named that because it’s in a industrial area rather than in the countryside. Come to Long Beach north of 7th street and you’ll see a real ghetto. In any case good wine, but really amazing couple that run the place. The “Rasta” Pinot is super good and the Chardonnay was like candy.
I also recommend going to Jalama Beach Cafe for their Kobe burgers located in Lompoc. The men’s restroom treated me like I was at home (*note I was by myself in there - otherwise I would never take a picture in a men’s restroom like this as that would break one of the bro codes).
Overall great weekend and much needed vacation, although I don’t feel any less tired than I normally do. Next stop Vegas…the adventure continues.
A couple night’s ago we helped with the Nissan 370Z unveiling that coincided with the LA Auto Show. The event was held at the JLounge in Downtown LA - great venue! Open bar and unlimited supply of appetizers were provided. My favorite were the sliders and chicken skewers! On display were Z’s from past years and a video that highlighted the history of the “Z” that was projected on the building wall.
Overall, I like the new “Z” and think that it has great potential in drifting. It is shorter and lighter with more horsepower stock than the 350Z and we all know how competitive of a car this was in Formula DRIFT. With Tanner stepping into a Scion tC next season this opens the doors for someone to step into the 370Z to take the Nissan crown. Perhaps it will be Forsberg or even Millen?
Check out some of the photos.

I’m digging this blue.
Shorter than the previous 350Z…easier to stay off the wall.

Red Bull Drifting World Championship Results;
Rhys Millen Wins the Title of World Champion at Inaugural Event
Long Beach, Calif. – November 16, 2008 – Rhys Millen won the title of “World Champion” at the inaugural Red Bull Drifting World Championship. History was made with the top drifters from around the world competing for the largest prize purse in drifting history at the Port of Long Beach.
17 past and present drifting champions from the top drifting organizations in the world gathered in Long Beach, CA for the first Red Bull Drifting World Championship. First place qualifier Rhys Millen and his Red Bull Pontiac Solstice outperformed the competition to win the largest single prize of $25,000 in drifting history. Teammate Daijiro Yoshihara and his Bridgestone / RMR Pontiac GTO took home the 2nd place prize of $15,000 and the 2007 and 2008 Formula DRIFT champion, Tanner Foust and the Rockstar / AEM Nissan 350Z took home 3rd place overall and $10,000.
“To come up after one of the most challenging years in Formula DRIFT and finish in the top 3 and then to be the marquee driver at this premiere event and take the Red Bull Drifting Championship outright is a feeling I have never had before,” says Rhys Millen, Formula DRIFT driver and event winner. “To stand on the podium with teammate Daijiro Yoshihara at this event to end the season is fantastic, what more could you ask for?”
Gathering at the Port of Long Beach were the top drivers that compete from Formula DRIFT, D1GP, D1 New Zealand, DMCC, Drift Australia, EDC, FD Singapore, IDS, Nordic Drift, New Zealand Drift, and Pro Drift. This was a battle of the champions and Formula DRIFT 2005 champion Millen came out on top.
“All the teams, fans, sponsors, supporters and especially Red Bull and the City of Long Beach made the Red Bull Drifting World Championship truly historical event,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “We were able to bring the entire drifting world together under one roof and made for one of the best drifting competitions ever.”
The event was held at a special venue on the Port of Long Beach that featured a purpose built drifting track that was highlighted by a very fast entry and 6 technical turns. Event winner Millen set the speed bar high by also claiming the highest entry speed of the event with a speed of 103.7 miles per hour during the finals. The track proved to be challenging with many drivers falling victim to the walls and barricades and other drivers stepping up to show off their total car control.
The level of competition was at an all-time high and created one of the most exciting events in drifting history. The Top 32 drivers battled round by round and the semi-finals pitted (4) Formula DRIFT drivers against each other. Yoshihara got the best of 2-time Formula DRIFT Champion Samuel Hubinette in the Nuformz / Mopar Dodge Viper placing him into the Finals. Current Formula DRIFT champion Tanner Foust battled against Rhys Millen, with Millen coming out on top. The consolation round with Foust and Hubinette was a close fought battle, but Foust’s consistent driving proved to be the deciding factor placing him in 3rd place. The final battle between teammates Millen and Yoshihara was a close fight, but Yoshihara decided his fate with a spin in the last round, giving the inaugural Red Bull Drifting World Championship to Rhys Millen.
