Drift Car Buildup Pt. 4, 5, 6 – 5 Lug Conversion, LSD, Wheels

5 Lug Conversion is something I suggest doing before purchasing wheels. Wheel Options for 4 lugs are very limited and converting to 5/114.3 will give you options for days. I chose to go OEM although there are some good hubs out there from different companies. You can go Peak Performance if you’re thinking of an upgrade.

Limited Slip Differential. If you’re building a drift car, you need something that’ll give you the most positive reaction from both wheels, at the same time. Getting a 2-way locks on both acceleration and deceleration. The cheap way to go about doing this is to weld the diff, which I was never a huge fan of. It’s such an 80’s approach and It just doesnt sit well knowing it’s always “on” even in reverse.

A differential allows the rear wheels to spin at different speeds in a corner while power is being applied to them. The outside wheel must spin faster since it travels a longer distance than the inside wheel. A Limited Slip Differential (LSD) performs the function of a regular differential but also locks the rear wheels together when one of the wheels begins to slip. Without an LSD, when a wheel slips, the majority of the power goes to that wheel. The power is wasted, and the car does not move forward.

In this case, I used a Kaaz 2-Way LSD.

Wheels. Now that you’re converted over to 5 lug, you’ll have to find the right ones for you. Ask around, check out the forums, but ultimately, it’s up to you on what you want your car to look like. Make sure you learn about offsets before you push the Purchase button cause you might have the coolest wheels out there but if the offset is off, you might as well have bought replica’s.

Here’s a few wheels and offsets. Pardon the car colorways. Ill explain later.

Gram Light 57 17×9 +22

Jline Wheels 18×9.5 +12

Work CR KAI 18×9.5 +22

Volk Racing TE37 18×9.5 +12 / 18×10.5+22

AME Circlar Spec R 18×9 +15 / 18×10 +25

AME FS-01 18×10 +25

Some photos and vids of the car in action.
