Still Bill.
March 30, 2009 – 5:02 pm | One Comment | submitted by Omar Ellis

I stumbled on this earlier today, at RapRadar of all places. Check out the trailer for this new documentary below…

One of the greatest musicians finally gets his well-deserved shine Still Bill honours the musical legacy Bill Withers left us with. The film premiered last week at SXSW, let’s cross fingers this gets a top-notch dvd release soon….

“It’s ok to head out for wonderful.
But on your way to wonderful you’re gonna have to pass through allright.
And when you get to alright, take a good look around and get used to it, because that might be as far that you’re gonna go.” – Bill Withers

I need to see this. If anyone has a screener, you know what to do…

If anybody needs some of his music, holler at the kid.

A View From Up Above…

I wish I thought of doing something like this when I was their age…

Using a $77 Nikon Coolpix and a $60 latex balloon filled with helium, a team of teenage students captured these remarkable shots from 20 miles above the Earth’s surface.

Radio-synced to Google Earth, the team tracked the package as it soared 885 feet per minute into the sky, taking shots on a periodic timer. The balloon eventually failed around 100,000 before the system parachuted to the ground.

Sparkle Motion are club AV pioneer DJ Yoda and 80s R&B connoisseur/spinemagazine.com music editor TOBES.

They got together and plucked out selection of their favorite 80s R&B breaks – no vocals, just an hour of raw 80s beats for the jacuzzi, the private jet, or the boom boom room.

…but maybe I’m biased cause I’m from Brooklyn?….I doubt it…
When it comes to hip hop, there are only a handful of people that truly deserve to be called legends. In BDK, we learn the story of one of hip hop’s most notable legends, Big Daddy Kane. From music to fashion, Kane has always been a quintessential figure of the Golden Era of hip hop. In this documentary, directed by Anthony Marshall (co-founder of Lyricist Lounge), Kane talks about his years growing up as a kid in New York, his life in the rap game, his influence on fashion and his lyrical superiority.

True Hip-Hop Stories: The Homeless Emcee.

This is a crazy story. Check it out below…

This is the story of a homeless rapper I met on the streets of Brooklyn. There’s a part of me that feels for him because it’s quite obvious he suffered a great deal as a child. But it’s hard to show sympathy for a man who has lived life the way he has. I guess everyone deserves to be forgiven.
