Video Of A Suite For Ma Dukes in LA.
February 25, 2009 – 6:42 pm | Comments Off | submitted by Omar Ellis

I mentioned this event the other day, so when i came across this video I felt it only right to share it…enjoy it.

This is video I took at the Timeless: Suite For Ma Dukes concert. A 40-piece orchestra interpreting Jay-Dee’s wonderful work from the hits to the obscure. Arrangements by Miguel Atwood Ferguson. There were numerous cameos throughout the night but this video features Posdnous of the great De La Soul and Talib Kweli performing Stakes Is High and Illa J doing adlibs over Fall in Love. Karriem Riggins was on the drums for the 2nd half of the show. I was trying to be respectful by not taking video but at this point everyone in the place took out cameras and flashes were going off. Since I was in the front row, I might as well share a little bit with y’all. When the full concert comes out on DVD (since there was a film crew) it’s definitely a must-have for Dilla fans and music lovers alike.-Dert

Tunnel Of Lights.
February 24, 2009 – 7:16 pm | Comments Off | submitted by Omar Ellis

This is just cool…

The name of the installation is Multiverse, and it was installed by artist Leo Villareal in a 200-foot-long tunnel in the National Gallery of Art in Washingtong DC. The entire thing features 41,000 LEDs that animate and move on their own, using randomness to ensure that no one will see the same configurations twice. Multiverse will be on display throughout 2009.

A Suite For Ma Dukes EP.
February 17, 2009 – 8:49 am | Comments Off | submitted by Omar Ellis

via okayplayer

A number of projects have been put together to honor Jay's legacy and to help raise money for his family and/or for various Lupus foundations. One of the more creative projects I've come across is this one, The Suite For Ma Dukes EP. This project was put together by Carlos Nino and Miguel Atwood Ferguson, and it's a 4 song EP featuring orchestral interpretations of some of J Dilla's finest work. We have been given the go-ahead to stream one track from the EP, an interpretation of Slum Village's "Fall In Love." To this day I don't think I've let a week pass by without playing this song, so I'm glad they chose it. Proceeds from the EP will go to Jay Dee's mom, Ma Dukes. Go show some support and buy the full project on iTunes, or cop the vinyl when it drops in April via Mochilla. If you will be in the LA area on February 22nd, get that real life feel for the project as a 36-piece orchestra performs the Suite For Ma Dukes EP live at the Harriet and Charles Luckman Fine Arts Complex.

You need this in your life, folks. Check out the sample below….
