Mos Def — New Danger

I spotted this yesterday in ESPN’s Uni Watch column. Check out “The Finisher Bag” from NYC brand No Mas….
No Mas prexy Chris Isenberg, a longtime Uni Watch favorite, has really outdone himself here. He has taken his huge collection of vintage Starter jackets — more than 200 of them, accumulated over the past decade — and begun turning them into gym duffels, which he’s calling Finisher Bags. Total genius! “The sewing is a very tough job, because every jacket is sized differently and has different patches, appliqués and embroideries,” Isenberg explains. “So we have to make it the proper shape and then move all those details into the right position.” This process explains why the bags are pricey — $300 — but also means each one is a unique, hand-created masterpiece. The first batch of bags should be available on Dec. 15, just in time for holiday shipping….
Pretty dope. Check out more info at Uni Watch, or over at No Mas’ site.
I promise that my next post will not be at all basketball and/or sports related. That said, i had to post this, after posting the Ray Allen clip a few days back…
Just. not. right.

Everybody been bugging over Q-Tip’s new album lately, and rightfully so; it’s really good music. Someone pointer out to me the other day thought, that people haven’t really been able to appreciate his growth as an artist because his label refused to release his last album, Kamaal The Abstract.
Thank god for the internet.
Download Kamaal The Abtract.

I met Anjulie in like ‘04 at the release party for De La’s The Grind Date. She as giving out fliers for a show she had coming up and we got to talking and from there, became friends. She had moved to NYC from Toronto, trying to get a deal and she was grinding HARD. Like playing out in front of label offices all day, doing a couple of gigs a week, doing her own promo & press, etc… I eventually helped set up a performance at Cornerstone, where I was working at the time, trying to get her some more exposure. I think from there she ended up getting up with BlackSmith, Kweli’s label.
I haven’t talked to her as much the last few years. There have been intermittent emails and phone calls, but you know how it goes sometimes…
That said, It felt real good to get an email today about her new EP. Check out the details below…
Born to immigrant parents from Guyana and raised in Toronto, the now Los Angeles-based 26 year old Anjulie is an intriguing, authentic new voice on the pop landscape. With melodic gifts, vocal prowess and sophistication, she announces herself as a true original on her debut Boom EP and forthcoming self-titled album for Hear Music. Co-written with her producer and collaborator Jon Levine (of Canadian R&B hit makers the Philosopher Kings), Anjulie sets intensely personal stories about her life, loves, obsessions and heartbreaks to a glittering genre-blending mix of pop, hip-hop, rock and world rhythms she heard growing up.
The slinky opening track, “Boom,” works a dark, Nancy Sinatra-esque ’60s vibe, while the sweet pop sophistication of “Love Songs” and “Day Will Soon Come” exhibit her personal and musical confessions come to life. Much like her contemporaries Nelly Furtado, Corinne Bailey Rae and Lily Allen, Anjulie is ready to carve out her own essential place in popular music with this versatile, confident, eclectic introduction.
Check out her myspace. Click here to buy the EP on iTunes and Amazon.
Also, you can download her fist single: Boom.
Not sure how i feel about the actual song but the visuals here are flames. If I ever make a video, I want it to look like this…
his album hit stores today btw.
I know that no real reminder is needed, that we all know what’s going down tomorrow, but I figured with one day left before the election, I’d give folks some nuggets to chew on before heading to the polls.
Check out a video on the day below, which features some of my peoples. Also, after the jump, check out a podcast from the folks at HVW8, who also created the above artwork. You can purchase the print, too.
oh and….VOTE.

I’m a die-hard Knicks fan (even though I wish they would just let Steph play, but I won’t get started on that…) so I hate me some Celtics, but……Green & Gold XIs?!!?! What?!!? You know Bishop Magic Juan is real mad right now.
If anyone knows how to get a hand on those, you know what to do.
Those are NUTS. Just ridiculous. Cot damn.
