Pan and Zoom at MotoGP

I was excited to shoot Laguna Seca. Since it was my first event w/ a DSLR, my goal at was to get three action shots, where I could see some crisp stickers, spinning rims and blurry backgrounds. I’m happy with four, so I’m stoked! I brought my Canon Rebel XSi, 50mm and 18-55mm lenses. Then I also shot with one of Mark’s long lenses and Prashant’s wide angle. These photos were taken from the Red Bull building more than a hundred yards from the track. Shooting the bikes at top speed from that far was a challenge. Definitely a fun and learning experience. After reading the panning post on F/Stop, I’ll try longer exposures. Catching some drifting is on my to do list!

Not that much blur here, but I’ll take it!

The next shots fit my criteria for decent blur and crisp stickers.

Dope Ron! Always wanted to do some panning shots since I see it a lot on this site.

    …100 yards away?
    good stuff.

  • Thanks y’all!

Jason, do it! You have mad skill.

Scott, I think that was the range. They might have been closer than 100 when they were right in front of us. Hella fast on the straight though!

Nice pics Ron. Ive been following Jose’s advice on F/STOP about panning and have just been practicing in downtown SF. I need to work on my keeping my hands more steady, its tough. Keep it up man.
