WeSC NYC Presents: Artwork by Bari Schlosser
November 6, 2009 – 6:44 pm | No Comment | submitted by Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco

last night i headed over to WeSC, my buddy josh (gah i can’t get myself to call him “stash”), bbm’d me to head over there after work and OF COURSE he mentioned food to be catered by la esquina. (BUT my dumbass forgot and decided to just go down to la esquina and buy myself two tacos, then i showed up and saw EVERYONE helping themselves to FREE la esquina – DOH!).

anyway, josh’s main squeeze bari schlosser, had a bunch of her artwork displayed, wrapped up, screenprinted around the shop. SO many people to show their support! it always amazes me how small the nyc art community is, especially all the different generations from the old-school heads to the admirers of the old school heads to the old shool heads’ own kids! ya dig?

anywho, i love when the “unsung hero” gets to shine in the limelight =)

doh! caught her with her eyes closed – my bad… but that’s ariel (josh and bari’s cutey patootey daughter) to the left and bari to the right:

all in all, i had a nice time seeing my friends and hanging out with people i hadn’t been able to for a looong time. fall/winter events are the best because everyone pretty much stays indoors and makes it feel that much cozier =)

Another Inner City Bike

Our project, simplicity in inner city bicycling, was at first glance a fun aesthetic opportunity in new trends, color, and materials. Our target lived / worked in an inner city environment with minimal space. Bicycling at this level can be more about fashion and culture than speed and performance.

After the first few brainstorm sessions we knew there where bigger opportunities. The project ended up rethinking what a “frame” meant, getting ride of basic key components, and creating a new type of compact bicycling. Inspired by the first the “hobby horse” from it’s simplicity and secondly the cafe race scene. Each is an exercise in stripping something down to its core.

1994. fireworks. arepas. girls night.
November 4, 2009 – 4:22 pm | No Comment | submitted by Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco

yes, indeed it was a girls night. i linked up with the mates: grace, suz and shanny. before stuffing our faces with cuban arepas, we headed over to a screening of ema dallas’ “too much bang for your buck.”

i didn’t know too much about the film since grace was the one that found it via face book lol. however, i DID find out that it was a film taped in ‘94 in nyc about fireworks. NUFF SAID. i’m totally game!

pinkpony1

it was held at pink pony’s (right next door to the fish), i’ve always passed by it, but never went inside, its VERY cozy… i will go back.

here are some trailers:

it was pretty awesome, i love seeing 90’s footage – so raw.

anyway, after stopping myself from eating all the free bread and butter at pink pony’s, we headed over to caracas for some arepas. google it. AMAZING. instead of chips and guacamole, they have plaintain chips and GUACACA!!! YUMMMMMMM!!!!

igei and i wandered the streets of downtown new york (and remembered why we loved it so much)… uhm, let’s just say there were a TON of sales going on and i was very proud of myself for not spending that much money but coming up with more than a handful of stuff!

we hit up joe’s shanghai for some soup dumplings after our walk… i love walking through chinatown because its SO lively (although you have to walk in the streets sometimes because there are just WAY too many people on the sidewalks at times). igei picked up a coconut (hehe, been using my new flip camcorder as you can see, sorry for all the bumpiness too…):

r2

after eating our fill at joe’s shanghai (i wanted to post a video of it, but it needed some editing, so i’ll have to wait for another time to post the “how to eat a soup dumpling” tutorial lol), we stuck around so my girls sunshine, crystal and candace could meet us to say hello. i’ve known sunshine and crystal for YEARS – they were my favs in high school (they were the cool ones a year above me lmao). sunny just moved here a few months ago and crystal is visiting with candace. i LOVE them… can you see why? ->

r3

on the way home, we met the best kitty ever at the bodega across the street. we tried to buy him too, but it didn’t happen =(

WNW/Stages09 x Trackstar x DQM Presents London to Paris by Grace LaDoja
October 30, 2009 – 11:51 am | One Comment | submitted by Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco

Last night a bunch of us headed out to the premiere for London to Paris. The 30 min film was directed by one of my favorite london towners (more like SF/NY/London nomad!), Grace.

The documentary styled film followed our boys, Kyle, Nish, Geez, Mase, Hal, and folks I haven’t yet met but hope to soon: Super Ted, Jupiter, Hime, and Andy… the scenes she captured were AMAZING while the audio was priceless and HILAR (especially Super Ted’s drunken slurs).

I don’t think I’ll ever really look at these guys the same way again, having biked (most on fixed) 100+ miles throughout my home away from home Europe (in my dreams). I’m sure this is a trip none of them will ever forget…

Anyway – back to the reception. A whole slew of bike enthusiasts showed up, plus your usual suspects:

China posted some photos from the night HERE.

Prolly posted some pics too HERE.

and just for fun, i’ve been messing around with my new flip camera so enjoy the total randomness that has pretty much nothing to do with last night’s event… well, maybe grace’s clip, but not turd’s and suz’s… HAHAHAHHAA – ENJOY.
