Downtown’s Sweetheart – Va$htie
February 10, 2009 – 9:03 am | 2 Comments | submitted by Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco

Hypebeast has featured an interview with my homegirl Vashtie Kola. Now if any of you don’t know who she is, she’s definitely one to read up on!

She’s one of the first ladies I met out here in NY and I can honestly say that I looked to her, and a handful of other women, to fuel my hunger to make something of myself in this industry and city while still demanding respect as a lady.

The interview gives you insight of who she is, where she came from, and what she does now… to me, she’s the epitome of that bad ass chick running shit correct’! =)

Brunch with Chinico and STEVE =)
February 8, 2009 – 5:34 pm | 6 Comments | submitted by Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco

As I was roaming around Soho, fighting the urge to shop and killing time before I hit the gym, I became utterly hungry, no, STARVING. So in this fragile state, I went into Urban Outfitters and almost went wild in their sales section before I made the decision to hit up Chico to see if she’d eaten yet. Thank gawd she didn’t or else I would have used all my anxiety and dropped a bunch of cash on things I really didn’t need.

We ended up eating at this Japanese “homestyle” joing called Hiroko’s Place on Spring and Thompson. The atmosphere was incredibly charming, it felt like a real family’s kitchen! And the food was yuuuummmy – I got the Emu curry (I think?) and a banana shake made with soy milk. Chico got the same while Nico got some Spaghetti – Japanese style! I was STUFFED (had to unbutton my shirt!). Oh yea… it was unofficial flannel day – puwhahahahaha – what a coincidence!!

OH! I didn’t take a photo of it, but they use this coffee syphon thing to brew coffee – pretty awesome, I want one…

Afterwards, we hung out at 21 Mercer for a bit and I was able to reconnect with Will (one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met) as well as the rest of the NSW crew… There was also some kind of Penny photoshoot with that little doll… LOL – I didn’t wanna bust out my camera during the shoot hehe.

We parted ways, I hit the gym and then on my way home… I passed by Steve Madden, WHY??? Because I saw THESE FIERCE SHOES and yes, I gottem! (My first real pair of WOMAN shoes hahahhahaha!)

wejetset: CITY NOTES w/ Claw Money
February 8, 2009 – 5:07 pm | Comments Off | submitted by Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco

Last month I mentioned that wejetset had “set” out to create a new section called CITY NOTES. They recently posted Claudia’s (Claw Money) interview:

City Notes is born from a conversation. Part interview and part travel guide, City Notes takes its readers on a humble tour of a metropolis through the eyes of a creative professional. It’s an idiosyncratic close reading, an interview with a place via the loyalty and loves of some of its most prestigious ambassadors. In this edition wejetset follows Claudia Gold on a tour of her city, where she highlights her favorite places to eat, stay, see, relax & live. Click Read More to request your free copy of city notes, view additional photos and watch the trailer.

FINALLY watched it…
February 8, 2009 – 4:53 pm | 2 Comments | submitted by Jessica "Yoshi" Gueco

“IT” = Sex and The City!

WHY did it take me soooooo long to do? (Ah yes, I remember, SOMEONE kept changing my netflix queue!) I absolutely adored the movie, so honest and so real in the world of those in the fashion industry as well as those trying to “find love” in NY. GAH!

Those 4 friends reminded me of my cousin and her 3 friends. All growing up together right here in Brooklyn, all VERY trendy in their own ways, and all, after more than 10 years, still as tight as ever as though neither (errr some) of them had kids, or husbands, or heartbreaks… Now THAT’s the kind of friendship I wish I had growing up.

Not only was I touched by the friendship and love portrayed in the movie, but I was sure as hell stunned at all the trends and fashion! (duh). Being that the I am/was the tomboy that I am/was, I always thought high end fashion was more of a stupid girl thing, why would I EVER EVER want to pay more than 100 dollars on shoes/purse/dress/hat/shoes that I won’t be able to “wear” everyday because its more of an article of clothing than an accessory?!?! However, the longer I live here in NY and the more I mature, my sneaker and tee collection just doesn’t quite suit me the same as say 2-3 years ago. (Also, I work in Soho, and my office is right next door to a modelling agency, I think, and I see models and fashionistas 24/7).

I’ll forever be surrounded by “streetwear,” but who says I can’t look like a woman at the same time? So, anyway, I totally get it now, and even though I’m a bit late in the game, I can at least say I know quality shit when I see it and now, I WILL pay an arm and a leg for those Milano’s thank you very much!

HAHAHAHAH – ok ok, I thought I’d share this little note with you all =) Hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend!
