Ari Vatanen at Pikes Peak 1989
More History revealed, Ari Vatanen is so far one of my favorites rally pilots ever!!! In 1981 he became World rally champion and in 1985 he won 5 times on a row, before he got a major accident in the Argentina Rally. After a long rehab Vatanen sign with Peugeot and won the Paris-Dakar Rally four times;In 1987, 1989 (205 T16) and 1990 (405T16), and with Citroën in 1991.

With Peugeot, Vatanen also won the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, after Peugeot stopped participating in WRC in 1986, due to the demise of Group B rallying. Peugeot used the lessons learnt from its 205 T16 to create the 405T16. With at least 600 bhp (447 kW), large aerofoils, four-wheel drive and four-wheel steering, Vatanen took the car up the hill in record time, and being captured in the award-winning short film Climb Dance.
The record time set was 10:47.77.
