Indy @ Sonoma Pictures (Formula-D Weekend)

Submitted by Prashant on August 27, 2009 – 5:10 pm2 Comments

Here’s a few pictures from the Indy race that was at Infineon Raceway during the Formula-D weekend. I didn’t have media access for the Indy event so I shot these from the first row of the stands. Not a bad place to shoot actually because as soon as I sat down and started shooting, there was another 3-5 L telephotos shooting next to me.

All pictures were shot with a Canon 40D with my new 70-200 F4 IS USM-L (dang that’s a lot of random numbers and letters if you don’t know cameras). I overnight shipped the lens just for this event and I couldn’t be happier. Optical quality is great, it’s very light compared to the 2.8 monster and since I don’t shoot indoor sports or events from far away I was fine with the F4. Worst case I have my 24-70 2.8 L too…

Anyways enough rambling. I’ll post the Formula-D pictures when I get the chance but until then, here are Indy pictures:

It’s easy… Maybe someone will post a tutorial here. But in the mean time, assuming you have an adjustable shutter speed camera, go to Google and search for “camera panning”

On average for the weekend I was using a shutter speed of 1/125. The pics I posted probably varied from 1/80 to 1/160 or so… EXIF should be intact if you wanted to look.
