Surf rock, art rock, indie pop. The Ohio-based Pomegranates fall into all these music genres, but no single label can be applied to them. I’ve been listening to their third album release, One of Us, all morning to determine what it is about this band thats got me tapping my foot and bobbing along to their music. I guess its the soft vocal harmonies, the hazy bass lines, and the way never ending electric guitar rhythms tie it all together. Its a little Apple in Stereo meets Deathcab for Cutie meets Pinback. Tracks like the Prouncer are poppy and upbeat. In contrast, Venus and the White Fawn take listeners on a mellow and dreamy aural journey. Pomegranate’s ability to take on a wide variety of musical styles is what that make One of Us an album I can listen to over and over again.
