Ladies Lotto: Lover’s Rock NYC Recap!
February 9, 2010 – 8:44 am | No Comment | submitted by yoshi

Last night I attended the Ladies Lotto Lover’s Rock event held at the swanky, private, Norwood Club (I have to admit, I kinda wanna be a member just to say, “yea, I’m a member at Noooorrrrwood.”)

I finally had the opportunity to meet a lot of the ladies I’ve only spoken to online via email/twitter/facebook you name it! It was so nice to put a face to the name! A lot of folks came out, many were dressed to impress (and perhaps looking for their soulmate?), overall the crowd looked amazing – beautiful faces with beautiful outfits.. and of course, beautiful personalities =)

What is Ladies Lotto anyway? I like to describe it as a forum, rather, a Craigslist for women who share the same interests!

Ruby (in the middle), whom I recently met at the Hellz x Vans event, just cut her hair! LOVE-ING-IT! Work it girrrrrl

Finally got to meet Suzy after about 2-3 years of online communication! She is HILARRRRRRR! And she’s on a mission, be on the look out for her.

RIMG0340

Meet Natalie, she’s the founder of the awesomeness called Ladies Lotto, as petite as she is, she definitely is not one to overlook – congrats on the great event!

RIMG0334

I’d also like to introduce you to a very talented, edgy, stylish designer for a small shoe brand called Dolce Vita (yea, I KNOW) – Ivy.

RIMG0325

Oh! Meet Shanna (sp?) we’ve been following each other’s blogs for a few months now and I think its all because of our twin kitties… they totally need to date.

RIMG0343

And of course I had to bring along my 2 dates. My friend Emily and LadyLike’s own LOUISE!

The rest of the night was full of Ladies Lotto’s very own drink specials, burlesque performances (I was too short to take photos – WAH! Maybe Mel will post some up on Village Slum), bachelor/bachelorette auctions (part of the proceeds going towards Women In Need), and just good times with new people! Awesome event ladies!!!!

Glee-glee-wallpaper

Okay so I totally know that I’m months months months late on the Glee phenomenon but don’t blame me when I live on the other side of the world! Anyhow, I’d been meaning to start watching the show for ages and finally got off my butt and watched them. It’s safe to say I’m officially a Gleek (I hear that’s what we’re called, still trying to get into the lingo lol). It took me less than 2.5 days to watch all 13 episodes and I am completely dyinggggg waiting for the final epsiodes to air in April. Luckily, I can get my Glee-fix from the amazing soundtrack! They have two volumes out now all with songs performed on the show (for some reason my version also happens to have some extra songs, perhaps from the newer episodes?).

On The Sidewalk: Mix & Match
February 6, 2010 – 8:18 am | One Comment | submitted by Betsey J

When it comes to mixing and matching prints, patterns, textures, etc. there is definitely an art form that goes along with it. Basically, you’ve either got it or you don’t. Well this chic…definitely has got it. I admire her bold, yet chaotic, choices with this outfit. However I will admit the bottom half, not really feeling it. I wonder what type of shoes she was wearing underneath it.

Alright ladies, time to get that plastic ready one more time! You can get your little paws on the Vans X Hellz shoes starting MONDAY, FEBRUARY 8th!!!

Quality is much better than quantity, my friend. The Vans X Hellz  shoes are far from being a “dime a dozen”, which is why Hellz is excited to be bringing once again, a special release consisting of the shoes themselves for only a FEW lucky buyers.

Visit the Hellz Online Shop to have a chance to pick up the much raved after Vans X Hellz shoes, and be the envy of your friends…but do note this is a LIMITED online release, which means there is only a few  pairs and this release will not last forever.

February 5, 2010 – 9:37 am | 2 Comments | submitted by yoshi

I’d like to introduce to you one of my bff’s Chico. From the first day I met her I have always been envious of her wardrobe collection and her impeccable, effortless sense of style. She constantly manages to keep her outfits simple, but there’s just always something about how she puts everything together that makes for a bolder statement that screams, “wow – she’s got IT.”

Check out her blog, aptly titled “Miss Chico,” and enjoy her world of Hello Kitty, latest gadgets, bargain accessory finds, and the latest on a shoe game I can only envy… Love ya Cheeks!

Two Cameras for Digital & Analog Love
February 5, 2010 – 12:42 am | 2 Comments | submitted by Sandy Ley

Although I love my Lomo LCA+ to death, two other cameras have recently caught my eye.
harinezumi-660x323
The first is Superheadz Digital Harinezumi – the first digicam by the Japanese camera brand. This little baby captures digital images with vignetting, imperfections, and saturated colors similar to that of 110 film – the inspiration behind it’s shape.

Best of all, it also records dreamy, lo-fi video reminiscent of Super 8 film. This is really retrograde done well, I love this throwback to analog.

lomo diana mini
The second is Lomo’s Diana Mini. The downsized version of its popular toy cam, the Diana mini shoots both square format and half frame. 72 flicks in one roll, dope!

You can purchase the Harinezumi 2 at Urbanoutfitters.com, and the Diana Mini on Lomo’s online shop.

Do you like these cams? What’s your favorite for analog photography?

Get the Look: Ruffle it up
February 4, 2010 – 8:09 am | One Comment | submitted by yoshi

I know I know, we haven’t been doing many “Get the Look” outfit posts, but I swear – we’ll do more!

I’d like to share this little “doo-wop” look for those of you who have no idea WHAT to do with that ruffle button up you bought from Forever21 half off only because you liked the colors (let me guess, plaid patterned) and HELLO – half off!

Fear not! I’ve provided a couple of options for you to try out…

Inspired by Janelle Monae, I decided to wear my hair up in curls and button my Mango blouse all the way up, proper and quite dapper looking, put on my all-time favorite Hellz-Bellz Taxi denim (cuffed up, probably can’t tell, but its alllll in the details), and threw on my bones Docs.

YOUR TURN:

Since oxfords are pretty much a MUST-HAVE nowadays, go ahead and play the role, pair it up with your ruffled shirt. As for your bottoms, do something different and NOT go for those leggings, instead, throw on a pair of worn out, tight, dark denims, and if they’re too long, just roll up the pant leg leaving one HUGE cuff – na’mean? Now if you don’t have oxfords, you can always toughen up the look with a pair of combat boots, which is what I did above…

Try the look out and let me know how it goes! Heck, even send us a pic!

Ladylike's Guide to Life, Lifestyle »

Can’t sleep? Neither can I.
February 3, 2010 – 11:28 pm | 3 Comments | submitted by Courtney

This past week I haven’t been getting any sleep. Killer isn’t it? I brought it up at the studio (where I freelance) and it seems like im not the only one out there not getting enough sleep or not getting quality sleep. After a many rounds of conversations about this topic I decided to share (hopefully) useful information. I’m not doctor so please consult your physician.

1. Write down what ever it is on your mind. Just write it down, no need to make an outline or essay. Just jot down your thoughts so you feel like its been recorded and you can return to your thoughts later.

2. Sometimes its hard to wind down after a long day. Sometimes my heart is literally still racing from the days grind. I found it helpful to take long deep breathes. Inhale for 10 seconds and exhale for 10 seconds. This will slow down your heart rate and will help you feel calm before lights out.

3. Sleeping aids from Ambien to Melatonin. Ambien is a drug, and there are others out there. With Ambien you need a prescription, so you will need to see a doctor. Ambien or others like it, will later need to increase the amount after consecutive uses. For example you use it a couple of times and after 5 uses it doesn’t work the same you will need to increase the amount. As any drug….some say it can be abused and even addicting. For more natural sleeping aids Chamomile, Melatonin are helpful and don’t have adverse side effects. When I think of Chamomile im thinking tea. A glass might be helpful before bed, just make sure its decaf tea. Melatonin comes in a supplement form and increases your REM sleep phase. Apparently this is when your body is getting your fullest sleep and rest time. So if you know you’ll be sleeping for only 4-5 hours taking Melatonin might help you get the most of those short hours.

What I Wore Today Drawings
February 3, 2010 – 1:35 pm | 2 Comments | submitted by Betsey J

In blog land there are probably hundreds, (maybe thousands) of fashion bloggers who post their daily outfits. While it’s interesting to browse through, let’s be honest sometimes it gets a bit boring. Well, I’ve found the cure for those afternoons that you just aren’t in the mood to look at other people posing. There is a group on Flickr entitled, “What I Wore Today Drawings” and it’s absolutely amazing. Instead of photographing themselves, they illustrate their daily outfits by hand and digitally.  I honestly found myself lost in the artwork for a few hours, it’s really quite captivating.
