Inspiration & Friends
November 5, 2009 – 11:14 pm | 3 Comments | submitted by mark fatlace

Im usually stressed when I goto Sema but this year was different. I didnt build a car this time around so it was the first time to go there just to meet with friends to catchup on their lives and see what they have planned for 2010. Of course there were the very important meetings which will help pave the way for fatlace next year but this year I got to really check out some of the cars and get inspiration from some of the best builders on the planet.

My Favorite Car..
November 3, 2009 – 8:44 pm | One Comment | submitted by mark fatlace

My Favorite Car at Sema is this AE86 Inspired Scion XB. From the wheels to the flares to the flushness, this is it. Killed it. Forget how it has an awesome disco dance floor and a dj booth that opens up. When closed, this thing is just plain old awesome and if it was ever offered, I’d take one.

YO-YO Killa’s
October 30, 2009 – 10:28 pm | 3 Comments | submitted by mark fatlace

Yo-Yo’s have been around for over 2500 years. Crazy right? Well, it’s true. The first time it hit stateside was in the late 20’s when Pedro Flores, a Philippine immigrant, began manufacturing a toy labeled with that name. The word yo-yo is a Tagalog word, the native language of the Philippines, and means ‘come back.’ In the Philippines, the yo-yo was a weapon for over 400 hundred years. Their version was large with sharp edges and studs and attached to thick twenty-foot ropes for flinging at enemies or prey.

Flores became the first person to mass-produce toy yoyos, at his small toy factory located in California. Donald Duncan saw the Yoyo and bought the rights from Flores and then trademarked the name Yo-Yo.

Here’s my contribution to history. I collaborated with Chris Mikulin of Caribou Lodge, who is an independent YO-YO manufacturer cause I loved the way it looked. It reminded me of the deep dish barrels found on many cars with aftermarket wheels. Brandon from Fatlace linked me to a photo of Hayashi Sakura wheels and it was over.

Here’s the Yo-Yo. I’m hoping to make a replica of the wheel on our next run but for now, enjoy the black and green version of our Sakura Yo-Yo. I’m not sure when these will be available but it will be very soon.

Fatlace / Illest Winter 5 Panels
October 29, 2009 – 9:11 pm | 5 Comments | submitted by mark fatlace

Super excited for these custom made 5 Panels. 3 different colorways for both the Fatlace and the Illest Lines. I didn’t order as many as I should have but hopefully we’ll have more sooner than later. These will be dropping next weekend during our Anniversary weekend and there will be a proper photoshoot for them. These are just shots of the final product.
