Every few years the spectacle that is the Rennsport Reunion occurs, like a comet that revolves around the solar system, this phenomenon is spectacular to experience. This is the pinnacle gathering of Porsche enthusiasts, owners, drivers alongside the collector vehicles, historics, storied race cars, and ultimately the finest Porsches to take the road all in one beautiful location at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Here you will everything from a 50’s 550 Spyder to every iteration of the ever so popular and beloved 911 to modern flagship 918. Legends of the sport displayed included the 356 Coupe of Cameron Healy, the 1951 Le Mans class winning Porsche to the 919 Hybrid that took the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The journey to get to Monterey, CA was an adventure in itself. We were invited to participate and join in the Momo Rally. This gathering of 75 street driven Porsches from all across Southern California began at the compound of Porsche enthusiast, Magnus Walker, in Downtown Los Angeles where the first glimpse of the collaboration steering wheel between Momo and Magnus was set on display.
The vehicles and drivers then set off over the famous 4th street bridge and made their way to Willow Springs, the first checkpoint. At the track a few fun laps were taken, while lunch was served. The cars then set off on the road again through the beautiful California backroads to Laguna Seca. This is where the drivers were able to relax and share their stories and passion for all things Porsche, while sipping on a few mixed drinks provided by El Silencio Mezcal, before beginning the weekend long Porsche experience.
The Rennsport Reunion featured over 1,400 Porsche vehicles on display within the Porsche Club of America corrals, over 75 Le Mans significant race cars in the Porsche Heritage tent, and many cars from prominent Porsche collectors.
Adding to the car show were weekend long races on the famous track. The paddock, pits, and the track itself was continuously filled with race vehicles ranging in groupings from the 356 and 550 Spyders, to the 917 and modern 911 RSRs, and IMSA’s 911 GT3 Cup Challenge.
The Rennsport Reunion was an amazing event where the cars took center stage for one incredible weekend. I’m already looking forward to the next one. Enjoy the collection of photos from the weekend below.
