The Team USA basketball team heads into the World Cup tournament through mid-September. As part of the Nike World Basketball Festival, the team played an exhibition game against Brazil’s national team at the United Center in Chicago. The game saw the return of Derrick Rose in front of his home court crowd, but the real story was how the young guns lead by Anthony Davis took control of the game to help Team USA get the win despite missing players Paul George and MVP Kevin Durant. For the FIBA World Cup, Nike has introduced the 2014 Hyperdunk, an evolution of the popular basketball shoe. Continuing to provide performance apparel, Nike has introduced the new USA Basketball uniform, which is the brand’s lightest uniform in history and debuted on the court during this game against the Brazil national team. According to Nike, “the Nike Hyper Elite uniform takes inspiration elements specific to the USA and Nike’s heritage to provide the team with a uniform that tells a story.

The angle of USA graphic on the new uniform was inspired by the chevron of the classic Nike Windrunner track jacket that was born in 1978.

Both the USA home and away uniforms feature red, white and blue hues meshed together in the 26-degree speed graphic – crossing the front of the game jersey, fading into a representation of the USA flag, and extending across the side of the game short from the front to the back. The speed graphic represents a distinctive basketball point of view, based on the roughly 1,000 directional changes, or “cuts” that a player might make in the course of a game.”

Leave it to Nike to focus on the details, the Nike Hyper Elite Jersey, features a flock lining inside the neck to allow the player to comfortably wipe excess moisture from the face. Comfort is key in performance and the ultra-lightweight stretch mesh in the back of the jersey serves to help regulate the temperature of the player. The fabric is redeveloped, lightweight sphere fabric to help with the body temperature as well, while wicking moisture and eliminating cling to the body due to sweat.

Of course style is everything on and off the court. The Nike Hyper Elite Shorts not only look good, but help performance. For comfort, a perforated and vented waistband ensure a level of cooling and security. A new, performance flex vent place strategically at the player’s knee allows the shorts to flex when the player moves for added mobility and anti-restriction while playing. You’ve probably seen hundreds of times players wipe their hands free of sweat that accumulates over a game on their shorts, with the addition of a “wipe zone” at the hips of the shorts, players can now comfortably and efficiently dry their hands.
