A group art show dedicated to one of my favorite characters of all time was on view this past weekend. Be Street’s “Bootleg Bart” opened last Friday with 70+ interpretations of Springfield’s resident bad boy, Bart Simpson and I. geeked. out. A lot of my childhood revolved around Bart. You see, I couldn’t watch the show when I was kid; I wasn’t allowed to. Something about their family values versus mine, etc, etc. So I would purposely go to my cousins just to watch it. I would obsess over drawing Bart as different characters. I collected t-shirts like Bart as Bartman or Bart in a Jordan jersey or Bart as an activist. I started saying things like “Ay Carumba” and “Don’t have a cow, man”. I loved Bart, and still do. Given all that, you can see why I really enjoyed this show.
“Bootleg Bart” ended yesterday. Here are some pics. We apparently missed Matt Groening by a few hours and I totally had a cow, man…
