The end of the Formula Drift season went down this past weekend at Irwindale. I’m sure Vaughn Gittin Jr. could smell the sweet taste of a championship prior to even arriving in Irwindale. His driving this season has been remarkable, his driving through this years series has made my jaw drop a few times. When he came out like a bat out of hell in Long Beach, I knew he was going to be the one to watch this season. His passion and excitement for the sport of drifting is clearly expressed through his actions and driving. He clinched the championship during the Top 32 but still drove his heart out to 2nd place. Congratulations on ONE HELL OF SEASON!
This last photograph I captured pretty much came unexpected. After spending hours in the media pit capturing the Top 32, Yogi and I went the long away back to the paddock. As I looked up, I saw the amazing colors of the Irwindale sky as the sun went down. In the foreground, I see JR driving into the sunset and went from dragging ass off the track to a full sprint in .08 seconds to get close enough to capture this image. Definitely one of my favorite photos I took from this past weekend.
