I checked out the French artist/photographer JR’s gallery today in Downtown Long Beach. I posted about this earlier, but was able to walk-in to see the work. Not many physical pieces of his work was on display, but what he did have was absolutely amazing and would look great on my condo’s wall. After winning the TED award JR has created this large-scale project that calls for everyone to participate on a global level. To do this a large format photo booth was assembled and everyone was invited to take a photo, the large print was then given to each participant to post around their neighborhood. For those that couldn’t be there in person you can still participate by checking out their website and submitting a story and portrait and be ready to post a giant image somewhere within the community.

“I wish for you to stand up for what you care about by participating in a global art project, and together we’ll turn the world…INSIDE OUT.” – JR, TED 2011

INSIDE OUT is a large scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Black & white photographic portraits will become large-format posters to be pasted back in the subject’s community. For more info check out www.insideoutproject.net.
