Ready for some SEMA 2013 coverage? No doubt you’ve been inundated by the endless images and video from your favorite social media channels so I’ll give you a break! Not to say the coverage isn’t coming but this scene also revolves around art, music, gear and well, anything dope in general. With that said, I took a much needed break from Vegas and flew to LA to visit the newly opened Killspencer workshop in Silverlake, California. I’ve been following this brand for the last year or so and stumbled upon their creations while hunting down a technical case for my iPad. To be honest, I had my heart set on an Acronym 3A-11TS but Google opened my eyes to an equally wonderful find – Killspencer. At the time, KS was fairly new but I was already lured in by their clean design, technical materials, hardware, and quality construction. I researched more and liked what I saw. This looked great on the Internet but I had to see it in person to believe it. Being from Canada, nobody stocked their product locally so I patiently waited for an opportunity to see their wares in person. Last Thursday, that day finally arrived with a visit to their home in Silverlake.

The shop was just as I imagined. Clean and contemporary with a bit of rustic flair through their products. Everything is designed and assembled in-house for that homegrown quality. Personally, I love products with a clear concern for details. Finishing touches such as the use of water-resistant military spec vintage fabrics, exotic wood, fine leather, and riri zippers are trademarks of a true artisan.

Killspencer began as a bag-centric brand but has since stemmed into high-quality accessories and recently a new Athletics brand. The brand’s designer and founder, Spencer Nikosey, wanted to purchase Athletic product but couldn’t find anything that met his demand for quality. So instead, he created them himself. The newly announced KS Athletics program includes hand crafted baseballs, footballs, and a boxing speed-bag that not only looks great but performs admirably. Peep this video here for a glimpse of the bag being put through its paces!

Of course, I didn’t leave empty-handed! I picked up the speed-bag, mount, and one of their exotic wood card-carrying iPhone veils. Give them a look if you’re in the area and of course they do Internet orders as well.
